Martinez Park Improvements Ground Breaking

January 21, 2014

The Martinez Park Improvement project will feature four competition grade softball fields with covered bench seating.  A public "Sombrilla" plaza will provide a gathering space during sporting or other civic events.

The sports complex will have a designated children's playground and bar-b-que grills to create a park-like atmosphere for visitors during sponsored events or anytime.  Another key attribute of the sports complex will be a wellness track containing three separate exercise stations that have been designed to accommodate all age groups.

The complex will have individual press boxes for each baseball field; concession stand for food and beverage service and shower / changing facilities for sports participants.  Four batting cages with coin operated options will allow individuals to practice at anytime independant of sporting events.

The New La Salle County Fire Department project sets a new precedence: Advancing fire service strategically positions the community for future growth and sustainability

La Salle County takes another step towards keeping their community safe, meeting the demands of their dynamic growth and preparing for future sustainability. On November 15, 2013 the La Salle County Fire Department project was officially launched. The project will include adding paid fire department staff, building new fire stations, purchasing new fire trucks, PPE and safety equipment.

To commemorate this special day Fire Chief Johnny Gomez hosted a Cadet Volunteer Day with 16 firefighter cadets from Travis County. The young men and women spent the day at the Cotulla Fire Station doing a deep cleaning of the facility and grounds, maintenance to equipment and giving special care to the fire trucks. Jack Showers, Senior Stakeholder Relations Advisor from Talisman Energy USA Inc. dropped by the event to present a check for $34,000.00 towards the new fire department project to aid in purchasing PPE and breathing apparatus. Talisman Energy is the first to step forward and support this much needed safety effort to advance emergency response service.

The recent rapid growth

La Salle County is presently experiencing tremendous growth due to the Eagle Ford Shale activity and with it come many benefits to the county residents but it is also necessary to remember the responsibilities that come with the oil & gas industry as a community.

La Salle County is proud to partner with the Smalley Foundation to bring Oil & Gas Drilling Safety Awareness workshops to residents through various youth, school and first responder programs. Click here to find out more about these new coming programs to our county.
